About
Hi, I'm Helen. I’m a therapist and supervisor passionate about nurturing growth and development. As well as being PACFA-registered at the clinical level, I bring 10 years of experience working with people of many different ages, backgrounds and circumstances and my lived experience to my understanding of and compassion for the “human condition”. Clients and students have often described me as kind, professional and knowledgable and perhaps most importantly - helpful!
My special areas of interest include working with women on all areas of their life, including stress, anxiety, depression, trauma, perinatal, relationship & family issues, the challenges of parenting, life changes, getting older, grief and loss.
I also enjoy mentoring and working with students, professionals, and clients and am trained and experienced in offering supervision, leading groups, presenting, lecturing, and teaching. My previous work has required presentations to students, other professionals, and colleagues as well as leading psychotherapeutic groups for women.

Person-Centred, Attachment Style & Family Systems approaches to understanding a client's needs

-
ACT (Acceptance & Commitment Therapy)

Emotion-Focussed Therapy
-
Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT)
-
Mindfulness-based therapy
-
Existential & Spiritual therapy
Getting support at the right time can be life changing. Working with someone who brings both skills and compassion can be just the support we need to move through hard times and emerge a little wiser!
Our goal is to support your growth and empowerment as we explore issues of concern to you, including:
• Trauma processing
• Recovery from Family & Domestic Violence
• Perinatal, parenting & family issues
• The challenges of different life stages and life events
• Life's "big questions" and living according to your values
• Grief and loss
Group Work
The process of attending a group takes courage, but connecting with a group of people who have faced similar issues, understand your struggles & can support your successes is something that no individual therapist can provide. We strive to create a safe space for personal and shared conversations with clients.
It’s inspiring to see clients’ lives transformed and their belief in their own strengths growing each time they meet. Group work is sometimes supported with individual therapy, before, during or after, if recommended or requested.
Groups are usually run in small, closed groups of 8-10 people, with 2 therapist-facilitators, which allows respectful connections to develop over time in tandem with personal work. Respect and safety are always prioritised & maintained in therapeutic groups.
Power to Change Group for Women:
The Power to Change group was developed by a European Commission project as an empowerment group for women. In Australia, many women still don’t know how or lack confidence to access information and support to make sense of their own situations and learn how to become more empowered.
This discreet and secure group meets weekly of an evening during term time and is offered twice per year. It is of 16 weeks duration across each semester, although this could vary, depending on demand.
Medicare rebates for group work are available through referral to our psychologist facilitating. They subsidise the cost for up to 16 sessions. For more details please click here.
This private group offers a space for women to access the information and support they need, often through referral to the group, although referral is not essential.
An interview to discuss your needs is essential before joining a group, so contact us to discuss the group's suitability for you.

We can partner with other professionals to either deliver or assist them in structuring the delivery of these services.
Supervision
We believe mentoring new therapists and supporting their development and growth as a practitioner, is essential for the development of the profession. Nurturing Growth offers a limited amount of discounted and group supervision to students of Counselling and Psychotherapy disciplines. Please get in touch if you'd like to discuss this with us.
Supporting you to become increasingly reflective, helping develop your ‘philosophy of practice’ and repertoire of strengths, while offering other resources as needed informs our approach to supervision.
