Professional Supervision: Philosophy & Approach

  • 2 min read

At Nurturing Growth, I am committed not only to the well-being of

my clients, but also to the next generation of therapists coming

though. One of the best gifts we can give our profession is to pass

on the skills and insights we have gained, to support the growth and

development of those newer to therapy. This includes professional

knowledge, upholding our ethics within the profession,

accountability to standards, each other and our clients and

transparency and integrity in our work.

Approach

My approach to supervision is flexible and integrative and I try to

tailor my responding to the needs of each supervisee. There is value

in many of the structured approaches to supervision, from which I

draw. Generally, I prioritise the development of reflective capacity

within the supervisee while also responding their needs for

information, guidance, suggestions, and introduction to new ideas

and frameworks for thinking. I consider the professional

developmental level of the supervisee, their previous learning and

preferred learning styles and ways of being in the world,

encouraging them to both build from their strengths and identify

new areas for growth. My own clinical interest & experience is in

empowering women across the life span catering to their unique

experiences & perspectives. I use a comprehensive approach in my

own assessment & therapy process including aspects of CBT,

Schema therapy, Internal Family Systems, EMDR therapy for trauma

& Existential themes, all within a Person-Centered framework of

“Unconditional positive regard”. My clinical expertise is in managing

Family & Domestic Violence, Trauma, Perinatal care & parenting,

Grief & Loss as well as Anxiety, Stress & other women’s issues.

Next steps.... the practical stuff!

After we have connected, I will send through an Agreement for you to

consider and we will proceed from there. Costs are on a sliding

scale - please contact me for more information. General supervision

conditions include: 48 hours’ notice of any changes, payment in

advance of the appointment. Appointments are available in person

or via video conferencing.

Feel free to get in touch!

I am happy to answer any questions you may have and will also

share about my background, experience, ways of working in

supervision and the client groups I am familiar with. I will also

answer practical questions regarding frequency, length and cost of

sessions, available platforms etc... If, after that, you feel we are a

‘good fit’ as we say, then we can go on to discuss further details,

make a contract and appointments.

As we develop our alliance, we need to know a bit about each other.

In our first meeting, I will be interested to hear about you...your

training, theoretical orientation, experience, previous supervision,

current work setting, your caseload type and size, professional

memberships and insurance cover and anything else pertinent to

share.

I hope this answers most of your questions and I am looking forward to talking with you!
